Popadnou mě někdo za ruku a přivést mě bez zásadních informací o brutální práci od rakouského malíře Gottfrieda Helnweina do výstavních prostor Galerie Rudolfinum, pomyslím si jistě, že je, byl a bude úchylným bláznem a s křikem od té osoby a míst uteču. Tolik brutálního zla pohromadě... Zlo ve všech možných podobách a tvarech, jak jen je možné zlo potkat. Zlo, které číhá v tichosti i ve víru, odpuzuje ale i magicky přitahuje, je všudypřítomné a zahalené s přirozeností, silou a bez výčitek udeří, kdy se mu zlíbí s jemností anebo tím posledním, smrtí. Jistě bych šílela a šokovaná pohlížela na plátna zobrazující zkrvavená a obvazy zafačovaná malá děvčátka bez možnosti jim jakkoliv pomoci, zachránit a od veškerého zla ochránit, kdybych nevěděla. Nemohla jsem se ubránit zhnusení nad zohavenými úchylnými tvářemi skupinky zvrhlíků, kteří na mě i tak působili, a kterým ve spárech před nimi leželo bezvládné děvčátko na stole oděné ve světlých šatičkách, jak nevinné. ...

My Thursdays in Prague are always jam-packed. After my documentary class, I have just enough time for lunch in the park before I have to get to my art history excursion to museums. This Thursday was especially memorable. I saw Frantisek Kupka’s "Fugue in Two Colors" in the Veletrzni Palace and then headed over to the Galerie Rudolfinum where Gottfried Helnwein led us on a tour of his paintings and photographs. On Thursday I had photo class in the morning, then art history class. For our Thursday excursion for art history, we first went to the National Museum of Modern Art where we studied Kupka and his abstract art. This was the first time in my life that I appreciated abstract art and it's beauty. The second part of the class, we went to the Rudolfinum to see an exhibit entitled Angels Sleeping by Gottfried Helnwein. I was in complete shock at his beautiful work. ...

Let us answer by means of an amusing anecdote. Several years ago we were walking down the Kantstrasse in Berlin when a speeding automobile ran up onto the sidewalk, struck us from behind, and then proceeded to us several hundred feet up the steet. Helnwein was behind the wheel. Then, when we finally came out of our coma, Helnwein burst into our hospital room and struck us a glancing blow with a croquet mallet. Finally, Helnwein marked our release from the hospital by hiring a mime troupe to beat us up. And not in mime, either. With their real fists. Helnwein called the resulting piece Someone Has to Suffer For My Art, and It's Not Going to Be Me. ...

Helnwein为一般人所知也许皆因为他为曼森专辑所设计的封面和CD彩页。扭曲变形的彩色人面封面和CD所附带的“孩童和枪”的彩页，似乎怀着恶意和颠覆在向一切冷冷微笑。而这一系列的造型设计，成为了后来美国校园枪机案后曼森遭受指责的直接原因。
Helnwein出生于维也纳。1969年到1973年在维也纳Fine Art学院学习油画。观察Helnwein的艺术创作，会发现他的作品有这样几个特点，首先是他的作品集中于表现孩童。他从学院毕业的71年开始到90年代的油画作品大部分都是一些缠着绷带，带着缝线伤口向你诡异微笑的孩童，也许原版的格林童话应该让他来做插图，而NICK CAVE应该采用他的早期油画来做插页，咧开撕裂缝合的嘴角，那是小小的孩子渗入骨髓的恐惧和恶意。他的摄象作品则很多都是儿童的各中头像。有很多也是他油画的模特形象。 ...

By in large, I like to stay on the beaten track with website design reviews. I usually pick big corporates that should know better or who have the funds to produce something of high quality. However today’s review focuses on the power of one. The website up for review is that of the extraordinary artist Gottfried Helnwein. Helnwein was born in Vienna but has both Austrian and Irish citizenship, and resides in Tipperary for half of the year. His art is in one word: incredible. I’m not an art critic and I am do not possess the skills to convey the quality of this man’s work so visit the website and judge for yourself.

By all accounts Helnwein is comfortable in the web setting. While his art is known for its shocking and often controversial visuals, he ironically displays the work in a way that adheres to web standards and here-in lies the key. Art should break standards and websites should adhere to standards. Helnwein excels at this whereas as most artists are happy to pedal conventional art on websites that break standards.

Gottfried Helnwein is incredible. His images are so disturbing, especially with his repeated use of imagery of innocence in perverse situations like wounded children or Donald Duck in dark alleys. Harry Parker III, the Director of Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco says that
"For Helnwein, the child is the symbol of innocence, but also of innocence betrayed. In today’s world, the...predatory influence of modern media assault the virtue of children....Many people feel that museums should be a refuge in which to experience quiet beauty divorced from the coarseness of the world.
